This is a classical cane dance by Olga Nour. I wanted to post a video clip of what traditional cane dancing looked like and this is one of the best examples I found. Olga Nour does a wonderful performance in this video, so I needed to share this clip.
One of the first things I must mention is the fact she is not wearing the traditional long dress but I don't seem to mind (nor does the audience). But forget her costume, lets focus on her dancing.
I love the way she enters the room. She appears from the back of the audience and walks up the stage after dancing a little bit with the crowd. I also love the fact she's dancing with a live drummer. The energy between them makes the performance twice as nice.
About Cane dancing: Take note how this dancer holds the cane and the way she twirls it around. All these movements she does with the cane come from tradition and has a story behind them. I don't want to pluck around history right now but I do want to get you to understand that these movements have culture and tradition written all over them. Admire the cane dance technique, Olga Nour does a wonderful performance here.
Next you'll notice that suddenly Olga Nour breaks into a short drum solo toward the end of this dance clip. I wanted to post only the cane dance but of course there isn't anything I could do to change the video clip. But her drum solo is hot to watch. She's lively and great to watch, she's makes you want to join her on stage.
