Tribal superstar: Zoe Jakes

This is Zoe from the bellydance superstars performing at Tribal Fest 2007

I decided to write about this superstar because her style reminds me of my dance partner Sahazha. Check out the clip:

I don't know about you but I felt like the first thing I noticed about this dancer in this clip is her over sized flowers. They look completely cool and exotic but also gives her a mystical feel. I love the way she begins her piece, she's so calm and still. That's a great way to get your audience really excited ;-)

Zoe has the most amazing body control and isolation's, she is dangerous and you have to love her for it! She seems almost haunted by the music as if she's in a wicked spell which is really mind blowing.

As the music picks up her movements become much more alive and electric. The way she positions her shoulders, rotates her chest, slides her head and keeps that still facial expression is what reminds of my girl Sahazha. If you seen my dance partner perform you know what I'm talking about.

There are a few clips of Zoe on Youtube but I liked this one the most for some reason.

Hungarian princess: Nieto Mercedes

This here is the Hungarian dancing princess Nieto Mercedes. I came across this great video clip on day while I was looking up Arabic dancers. I was intrigued by the clip because of the costume at first but once I saw this dancer begin to dance I was completely taken away.

I wasn't absolutely crazy about the way she begins her dance routine by facing the back of the stage (as a amateur dancer would) but once I seen her dive into that beautiful backbend I knew this dancer was for real. Things began to snow ball after that bend, slowly this dancer began to peel into a master. I was drawn by her powerful presence, grace and majestic skill.

Check out the video here:

This dancer has a fiery energy when she performs. Nieto comes across as a very powerful artist. Her movements flow beautifully with the music. I love the way she executes the music accents and the way she graps the rhythm. This kind of song can be challenging to dance to for some performers but Nieto Mercedes defines this song with her movements. I really like the way this dancer takes control of this wonderful song.

Oh as I always do here's my take on her costume: I adore her red costume, it's suits her very well. I love the material of skirt and the overall trim of the costume. Great fit.

I love this clip and I hope you enjoyed it too ;-)

The Author herself: Elektra Dances!

Happy 2009 everyone!

To start off the new year and to re-vive this blog, I decided to post my own youtube dance clip on my bellydance video blog. Yes... my own dance clip here and I'm going to speak about it.

This here is a sensual bellydance performance I did for a Halloween event in October 24, 2008. I must say that this is in fact my favorite bellydance clip yet. I really love this clip and for many reasons. So here's the run down...

First of all, I love the way I began this song. I decided to tease the audience at first by playing with the veil and slowly remove it from my body. Next I allowed the audience to explore the music with me and follow its enticing rhythm. I wanted my audience to fall for the music as I have and feel the sensual nature of this song.

Oh the music. Yes, this happens to be one of my most favorite songs! I had feel completely in love with it the very moment I heard it. It was love at first listen...LOL
The song alone is one of the reasons I wanted to post this video, it really is just a great song.

Anyway back to the video. I was wearing my favorite liquid midnight blue costume with its sparkly jewels. Oh how I love shinny things!!! The costume fits very well and is extremely sexy, more so that I'm actually am use to. But whatever the costume has a awesome cut and is one of my favorites... (I so have to have photos taken in it soon).

Back to the dancing itself,
I love my silky arm & hand movements. My turns were clean and fluid. I also did some breathe taking dance poses (where I stood still) within the performance and it looks really beautiful. And OMG those head tosses. I can't believe its me. Who is that sexy creature?..LOL I don't look like that when I'm doing the laundry. XD

Erika Veilz recorded this clip and she did a tremendous great job. She even did a close up of my shimmy section (love that belly close up)!!!

One of the other reasons I love this clip is because I kept true to the bellydance character. I wanted the dance to be sensual, classy and beautiful. I really feel that I pulled that all off and then some. I kept my smile on the whole time, but I always do that because I love dancing so much it really is a hard emotion for me to hid.

Ok without further Ade, here is my dance clip:

Hey did you catch that funny ending. I started to perform another song but the music stopped. Then I did what any professional entertainer would do, I continued the show anyway! I kept dancing and just laughed about it. No I didn't feel awkward at all. I love when that happens because its a great time to make the audience laugh with silliness. You can see me being goofy and loving it ;-) This is why I decided not to delete it and keep it on the clip.

I can't help it, it tickles me!
