For Serena Wilson...

This video pick is a special tribute to the legendary Serena Wilson. This past fathers day, one of our grand masters of belly dance, Serena Wilson, had passed away suddenly while shopping at a flea market. The cause of her passing is still unknown at this time but everyone is feeling the impact of her absence.

Serena Wilson was a pioneer in Middle Eastern dance and was the first dancer to create a dancer studio in NYC. Serena Wilson was a professional dancer who shared her craft with many student dancers. There are many popular dancers who are now well known performers thanks to the guidance of Serena. This teacher was the teacher who instructed my teacher, and she also instructed me. Yes, Serena was a belly dance grandmother, it was a pleasure to learn from a legendary dancer. I feel so lucky to have learned from her.

Serena was an inspiration, a great mother, and an icon in NYC. Here is a few random clips I found on Serena on Youtube. These two are very old but very wonderful to watch!

Thank you Serena for all you have given us over the years and the way you have impacted the belly dance community. We will miss you Serena, bless you where ever you are...
